How we make a difference in the world.

Overseas Volunteer Program

As an extension of our education programs in Sri Lanka we are beginning an exciting new project! Sonia Herndier, (public school teacher and mother of our staffer, Erika) is graciously volunteering her time and skills to help teach English to Rose Charities staff and teachers in Kalmunai.

She leaves March 31 2011 and will be living with other Vancouver community project volunteers from Rose Charities, an integral part of our ongoing relationship with our Sri Lankan community. CSLI is sponsoring her, paying for her flight and arranging accommodation, meals and travel for her as well as support teaching material.

We are excited for Sonia, as we know just how beautiful and appreciative the people of Kalmunai are, especially the children. Here, where we have had a strong positive presence since 2004, the name of CSLI & Rose Charities (and most things Canadian) are highly respected. She is our first volunteer teacher abroad, the first of many we encourage to get involved in CSLI/Rose Charities projects overseas, especially those seeking sabbaticals or nearing retirement, but who still have so much to give.

CSLI is also developing a volunteer project for CSLI students after they complete their studies. More information on this programme as it unfolds.
